  2. Get 1/4 cup rajma

  12. Make ready 1 tbsp coriander powder
  13. Take as required Green leafy coriander leaves for garnish(optional)

Dal makhani or dal makhni is a not to be missed lentil soup from India. It is prepared from two black lentils called urad, red beans (rajma dal), tomato puree, clarified butter (ghee), cream and several spices. It is better to be patient because its preparation is long. A Punjabi mixed lentil curry generally made with lots of butter and cream.

Instructions to make Dal makhani:
  1. Soak the black gram and rajma for 6-7 hours.
  2. Now boil the dal and rajma in cooker on high to low flame for 25 minutes (and add 5 cup water in it).
  3. When boil also add1/2 tbsp salt in it.
  4. Now heat some oil in a pan, add asafoetida, bay leaf and green cardamom in it.
  5. After a minute add onions fry it till it's colour changes (golden brown).
  6. Add tomatoes in it, after a minute add salt, coriander powder,red chilli, black pepper in it.
  7. Fry it for 3-4 minutes (use little water).
  8. Add butter in it.
  9. Now add boiled dal and rajma, mix it well, then boiled for 5-10 minutes, then add garam masala and malai in it.
  10. Garnish with green leafy coriander leaves.
  11. Dal makhani is ready to serve.

This recipe tastes even better the following day after reheating properly. traditionally, dal makhani recipe is prepared by simmering it overnight in a tandoor. this would enhance the taste of dal with the mixed spices. furthermore, the black urad dal and kidney beans are rich in proteins. also, black gram and rajma is high in fibre calcium and minerals. moreover, as compared to other dals like toor and moong dal, black urad dal is less in calories. in short, dal makhani served with rice makes it a balanced diet as rice is rich in carbs.
