Khichdi (pronounced [ˈkʰɪtʃɽi]) is a dish in South Asian cuisine made of rice and lentils (dal), but other variations include bajra and mung dal kichri. In Indian culture, it is considered one of the first solid foods that babies eat. I have used a mix of tur dal and moong dal to prepare this dal khichdi. I am trying and tasting dal khichdi for the first time.

Instructions to make Dal Khichdi:
  1. Cook Split moong dal in 4 cups of water,(if pressure cooking add less water)
  2. Wash the rice and keep it aside
  3. Finely Chop onions and coriander leaves and keep it aside
  4. Once the dal is cooked half through add rice and cook until rice is done
  5. In a hard bottomed pan heat oil.
  6. Once the oil is hot splatter the cumin seeds,whole red chillies and finely chopped Onions
  7. Fry until transparent,add turmeric and dal rice mixture.
  8. Reduce until most of the water is adsorbed.
  9. Garnish with coriander and serve warm.

When ever someone says I had dal khichdi for lunch, I will be so so very much tempted to taste. I wanted to try for long time but I had no idea for the.
