  6. Heat a heavy base pressure cooker. Add mustard oil and let it heat. Now add the mustard and poppy seed paste and onion and ginger garlic paste and fry it slightly. Now add the fish and make sure the masala coats the fish properly. Add the coriander leaves and green chillies. Add little water and close the cooker. Let it whistle for 2-3 times in a medium flame.
  7. Serve it with steaming white rice.

Back home Hilsa/Ilish is deep fried, steamed, smoked, baked/steamed in banana leaves, cooked with mustard paste, yogurt, or combined with vegetables like brinjal/eggplant/aubergines.
