Back home Hilsa/Ilish is deep fried, steamed, smoked, baked/steamed in banana leaves, cooked with mustard paste, yogurt, or combined with. The hilsa fish gets cooked fast so the cooking time is not that much.

- Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder for 10 minutes..
- Now in a steel Tiffin box add two types of mustard paste, coconut milk,curd, turmeric powder salt mustard oil and green chilies.And a little water.
- Add all the marinated fish in the box.And close the box with.the cover of the Tiffin box.
- Bhapa llish can be prepared in a flame using a double boiler.
- Take a deep vessel and place the steel Tiffin box in it.and add 5 cups water.
- Cook it in low flame for 20 minutes.
- Serve hot with boiled rice.
