- Prepare Split Bengal Gram/ChanaDal

- Make ready Freshly grated Coconut
- Get Jaggery/Jaggery Powder -/as per the required sweetness

- Make ready Cardamom Powder

Kara Kadubus, also known as Kaara Kolukattai are savoury rice dumplings made with urad dal filling. These are soft, steamed Sihi Kadubu, is also known as Kayi Kadubu or vella kolukattai.
Steps to make Khara Kadubu, Sihi Kadubu (Savoury & Sweet Pudding/Dumplings):
- Wash and soak both the Lentils in water for 5-6 hours or overnight.
- Add Green Chillies, Peppercorns, Ginger, Cumin Seeds in a blender along with the soaked Lentils in batches and blend it coarsely. DO NOT ADD WATER.
- To the ground mixture, add finely chopped Coriander & Curry Leaves, Grated Coconut, Lemon Juice, Salt and mix well. Add Eno/Soda in the end & mix it. Stuffing for Savoury Kadubu is ready.
- Boil 2 cups of water, add a spoon of Oil & Salt into it. Add the Rice Flour into it, give it a mix, close the lid & turn off the flame. Let it cook in the hot steam for 5-10 minutes. Then knead it to a soft dough and make round balls out of it as shown.
- Roll them into small Poori-like discs. Fill the stuffing on one side of it and close it as shown in the video.
1. Make similar Kadubus and steam it in the steamer/Idli maker for 20minutes and enjoy Khara Kadubu with Coconut Chutney and Ghee.
- For the sweet Kadubu, add a cup of freshly grated Coconut in a Pan, Jaggery and Rice Flour. Give it a good mix until the Jaggery melts. Add Cardamom Powder & the stuffing is ready. Repeat the steps 4-6 and steam the sweet Kadubus. Enjoy it hot with Ghee.
