The ingredients needed to make Boiled cabbage and beef sausage:
  1. Prepare 2 small heads of cabbage
  2. Take 2 beef Polish sausage
  3. Prepare 1 large red onion
  4. Make ready 1 can Rotel
  5. Take 1 beer
  6. Take 4 shakes of ground cloves

Cook sausage and onion in pan til brown, do not drain. Cut up and add cabbage to sausage/onion mix and saute to let cabbage soak up everything. In a Dutch oven or soup kettle, cook sausage and onion over medium heat until sausage is lightly browned and onion is tender; drain. Stir in the carrots and potatoes.

Instructions to make Boiled cabbage and beef sausage:
  1. Chop cabbage, rinse, add to large stock pot.
  2. Add can of Rotel and ground cloves.
  3. Pour in beer (we actually use 1 1/2 beers). Start warming on medium high heat so it will come to a boil.
  4. In the meantime, slice onion and add it to a large skillet. Slice sausage on the bias and add to skillet. Heat through until the onions start to wilt and cook down.
  5. Add sausage mixture to the stock pot with the cabbage. Simmer on medium until desired tenderness is reached, stirring occasionally. We usually cook ours a good 45 minutes.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

If the seasoning is salt free, add salt to taste. Drizzle the cabbage with a homemade hot pepper sauce. Fill a sterile jar with cleaned, chopped hot or mild peppers. Usually, sausage is made with pork or beef, but you can also buy chicken or turkey sausages, or tofu if you're a vegetarian. Simply boil the cabbage until tender and drizzle with butter, salt & pepper.
