- Prepare 200 gm rice
- Get 400 gm water (we use 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice)
- Get 1 raw mango
- Take 3-4 green chillies
- Get leaves curry
- Prepare bunch peanuts
- Make ready 2 tbspn cashew
- Get 1/4 tbspn turmeric powder
- Get salt as per taste
- Take 1 tbpsn chana dal
- Make ready 1 tbspn urad dal
- Make ready cummin seeds
- Make ready methi seeds
- Prepare pinch hing
- Get jeera
This mango rice recipe is a spiced, tempered and tangy rice dish made from raw mangoes. I also make the Andhra style mamdiyaka pulihora in the mango season. The tartness of the unripe mangoes, the subtle sweetness of fresh coconut and the heat of. Mango Rice, a delicious tangy flavored rice made using steamed rice and raw green mangoes and added to it is aromatic tempering.
Instructions to make Raw Mango Rice (Mango pulihora):
- Wash the rice. add the water and rice to pressure cooker and pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles. Switch off the flame
- Once the steam is gone, make sure you mix the rice properly in the cooker so that it doesn't stick
- Take the raw mango, peel it and use a medium size grater to grate the mango. Keep the grated mango aside
- Take big pan or kadhai, add oil to it. First add groundnut and cashew and saute it well till they get brown. Once done, keep them aside
- Now Add jeera, cummin seeds to the pan and saute it well. Now add chana dal, urad dal, green chilli (cut into small pieces) hing and curry leaves. Saute it well. Add haldi and salt as per taste
- Add grated mango to the mixture. Add the cashew and groundnut to it. Mix it well for 2-3 mins
- Now you can add the rice to the pan. Mix it properly so that the masala gets mixed properly. Keep the mixture on low flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Your mango pulihora or mango rice is ready Serve it hot
This time I wanted to make a recipe with mango which is quite filling and also perfect to be eaten during breakfasts and I decided to make mamidikaya pulihora. Enjoy mango rice with chips or papads as side dish. Notes - Use sour/tangy mangoes for this dish. If your mangoes are not sour enough, then add a little In Karnataka, they make a similar version of raw mango rice during festivals called Maavinakayi Chitranna in which they add a little grated coconut.
