- Boil the chana dal in pressure cooker for about 4 to 5 whistles. Remove the water and keep aside.
- In a pan add oil, heat it. Once heated add ginger garlic paste and saute for about a minute. Add onions and cook till translucent. Add tomatoes.
- Once the tomatoes are soft add the spices. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add water and bring to boil. Also add the dal and mix well.
- For tempering: Take asafoetida, red chilli powder, curry leaves, cumin seeds, dry red chilli, chopped garlic.
- Heat oil and add the above mentioned ingredients one by one. Once tempered pour it over the cooked dal.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and a slice of lemon. Dal fry tadka is ready to serve.
