Hara chana or green chickpeas are available in market or at grocery stores during February-March and sometimes April, if you are lucky to find them, grab them and make. In a food processor, pulse the dal with salt and red chiles, if using, until coarse. Keerai means greens and Vadai means fritters. Keerai Vadai or the fritters can be made using variety of greens.
Instructions to make Green chana fritters:
- First in a blender jar add green chana, green chilli, ginger and grind them coarsely.take out in a bowl.
- Now in a small pan add coriander and fennel seeds and dry roast for few seconds, after that coarsely grind them, keep aside.
- Now add gram flour in coarsely grinded chana mixture bowl along with salt, red chilli powder, coarsely grinded coriander + fennel seeds, chopped coriander leaves and carom seeds, mix well.add as required water to make little thick batter.
- Meanwhile heat oil in a wok to frying - add 1 tsp of hot oil and baking soda (optional)into the batter and mix well.
- Now drop fritters batter into medium hot oil by using hands or spoon and fry until nice golden, drain out in a pepper towel.
- Green chana fritters is ready, serve hot with green coriander chutney or sauce.
Spinach, dill and fenugreek being the most common. These crispy fritters are very simple to make and can be made in advance. You can even freeze them, making it easier to enjoy it whenever you desire. Serve Keerai Vadai with Dhaniya Pudina Chutney, Tomato Garlic Chutney or any other. Drain water and using an electric grinder, grind the soaked dal mixture to a thick coarse mixture (ground enough to form a lumpy dough) using little water.
