Tomato kurma goes well with chapati, all parathas, idli, dosa, idiyappam, rava upma and appam. I learnt this tomato kurma recipe from my apartment neighbor aunty. She make this tomato kurma kuzhambu (She calls this as Thakkali sambar in Tamil) as a side dish for idli, dosa and Idiyappam very often. Tomato kurma or thakkali kurma is an unbelievable tasty kurma that can be made in a jiffy!
Instructions to make Tomato kurma for Idiyappam:
- Add oil in a kadai and add 1 tsp fennel seeds,curry leaves and finely chopped onion saute until golden brown.
- Add masala powders and saute for 1 min then add finely chopped tomatoes saute until tomatoes are finely mashed. Add salt to taste.
- Grind coconut pieces green chilli and 1 tsp fennel seeds into a fine paste and add it into Kadai.
- Add one cup water and stir for 5-10 mins add crushed mint leaves and allow it to boil for 5-8 mins.And finely add coriander leaves.
