The ingredients needed to make Melagu Aati vecha mutton kolambu:
- Take 1/2 kg mutton
- Prepare 150 g small onions
- Get leaves Curry

Also tried with chicken instead of mutton. Muttai Kolambu or Egg curry is a popular dish. Usually in egg kolambu, Hard boiled eggs are cut into halves or slits are made in them and added to the kolambu. As a variation eggs can be poured directly into the boiling kolambu.
Instructions to make Melagu Aati vecha mutton kolambu:
- Wash mutton well. Add water, a pinch of salt, turmeric powder, a piece of ginger/ raw papaya(that softens the meat) and cook half cook. This can also be cooker cooked.
- Heat peanut oil in a vessels. Add mustard seeds and let is splutter. Add chopped small onions, curry leaves and fry well.
- Add the half cooked mutton, add few salt at this stage and let it boil for 10-15 minutes.
- Optional: if required, you can take some soup(we call it uppu thanni (salt water). This can be given with rice once we start feeding rice to babies. It is healthy for their growth.
- Heat a pan, add 2 tablespoon peanut oil, heat it, add chopped small onions, red chillies and curry leaves and fry well.
- Add cinnamon, fennel, poppy seeds, cumin seeds, pepper, cloves, rice (quantity as mentioned in ingredients part) and fry it
- Once everything is fried completely, take the pan off from flame and add coriander powder and mix it well in the existing heat. If you are adding coriander seeds, add it along with the spices and fry well.
- Grind the fried ingredients into a coarse paste. (Preferably in Aatangal[ hand grinder/manual grinder])
- Add this paste to the boiling mutton and mix well.
- Let it boil well for 10-15 minutes until the raw smell of masala goes and the kolambu gets reduced. Add more salt to taste if needed.
- And…. Melagu aati vecha mutton kolambu is now ready to serve. It can be served with hot idli, dosa and rice.
