The ingredients needed to make Chicken Tikka Masala:
  1. Take 1 Clove
  2. Prepare 2 Cardamon Pods
  3. Take Small piece of Cinnamon (2cm)
  4. Prepare 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
  5. Prepare 1 tsp Mild Madras Curry Powder
  6. Get 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  7. Take 1/2 tsp Salt

  12. Make ready 1 tbsp tomato purée (mixed with a little water)

  15. Prepare 8 Chicken Tikka pieces (add more if desired)
  16. Prepare 100 ml Single Cream
  17. Take 1 portion base gravy (see my other recipes for this)

Add the chicken and toss to coat. Chicken tikka masala is a dish of yogurt-marinated and broiled chicken in a creamy, spice-infused tomato sauce. It's surprisingly easy to make, and it's a great intro to Indian food for kids, as it's not too spicy. Heat oil in a large heavy pot over medium heat.

Instructions to make Chicken Tikka Masala:
  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the cinnamon, cloves and Cardamon pods. Fry these for two minutes on a medium heat and then remove them from the oil.
  2. Add ginger, garlic and other spices to the oil. Cook for 1 minute and then add the tomato purée and cook for a further few minutes and the add the salt.
  3. Add a portion of base gravy (around 2 ladles full). You can find the recipient for the base gravy in my other recipes. Mix this together and then add the natural yoghurt and coconut milk. Reduce this to a thicker consistency and then add the sugar.
  4. Add in the pre-cooked chicken Tikka pieces and cook for a further 5 minutes. Start adding the single cream bit by bit until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Add most of the coriander (keeping some back for dressing your dishes) and cook until the sauce is a slightly thicker consistency.

Add cardamom pods, cumin seed and cinnamon stick and cook until fragrant. There are various tales about the origins of Chicken Tikka Masala, and most are along the lines of the following: That a British aristocrat was served Chicken Tikka (chicken on skewers chargrilled in a tandoor) and sent it back to the kitchen, complaining it was dry.
